Meet Scott Russell

Scott has a wealth of knowledge acquired over the last 15 years working with clients in the construction industry. He started his career at Bell Gully, where his first job was working on the longest running construction litigation case in New Zealand – CHH v Rolls Royce & Genesis. He was in court for almost 300 days which either scarred him for life or grew his love of construction law (or maybe a bit of both).

Scott then moved to London, where he was involved in major construction projects and disputes, including litigation relating to the Teeside power station, the largest gas fired power station in Europe, and the Maybourne Hotel Group in London, the billion dollar hotel empire of Patrick McKillen, as well as a variety of other construction related projects big and small.

On his return to New Zealand Scott worked as senior legal counsel for the Commerce Commission before founding his own law firm to provide direct and pragmatic advice to successfully manage projects and resolve all kinds of construction disputes. Scott has a demonstrated history of success in the private and public sector dealing with complex projects for national and international clients involving construction adjudication, arbitration, mediation and litigation. Having worked for external consultancy firms, inhouse as head of litigation, and in the public sector for the Commerce Commission, Scott’s practical experience in working on all sides of the table has given him a unique ability to solve complex legal problems.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys traveling slowly, over long distances, in the least sensible way possible. This has included driving a 7 horsepower moto-rickshaw 3,000km across north India, mountain biking the Camino De Santiago 800 kms across France and Spain, hopping local buses the 10,000km length of South America, and riding in a truck 6,000km from Cape Town to Kenya.

Lets talk today.
