Axis-Services-Sub-Contractor

Subcontractors

We provide expert legal support and assistance to sub-contractors in the New Zealand construction industry.

Overview

Subcontractors provide essential specialist services that the New Zealand construction industry relies on. These include plumbing, electrical, roofing, concreting, waterproofing and many more. We work daily with subcontractors in the New Zealand construction industry and pride ourselves on our specialist knowledge of this market.

We understand that as a subcontractor you work across multiple different projects under time and resource pressures. We know that there is often pressure from all sides to get the work started and sort the paper-work out later. We also understand what makes your business tick is to deliver high quality work on time and within budget, effectively manage variations to projects, and ensure that you get paid on time.

We believe in the “do it once do it right” philosophy. We offer our set of specialised construction contracts, which have been refined over years of experience and are tried and tested in the industry, to take all the stress and headache out of the paper-work, contracts and legal jargon. Working with us will allow you to rest easy knowing you have the correct legal structures in place to support and protect your business at all stages of your project and make sure you get paid on time. We regularly review and draft all forms of subcontract agreements to ensure they are fit for purpose. Our knowledge and expertise means we can work around your timeframes and make sure you avoid unnecessary delays in getting on with what you do best with the knowledge that you have a strong set of legal documents to fall back on if anything goes wrong.

We are experts in the Construction Contracts Act, the Building Act and the Building Code. We ensure that your sub-contracting agreements appropriately manage risk, have strong mechanisms to manage projects and deal with variations, and have payment terms that are clear and have teeth.

We understand that unforeseen issues often arise in the construction phase of projects and are also experts in quickly and efficiently resolving disputes by way of negotiated settlements, arbitration, adjudication, court proceedings or alternative dispute resolution. We have a vast amount of expertise advising on issues of non-payment (and your rights to payment under both the contract and the Construction Contracts Act), variation claims, delays in completion and extension of time claims. We also regularly advice on post-construction disputes such as defective work claims and weathertightness issues.

We know construction and speak your language. When it comes to construction law, we are the experts.

Our clients return to us because of our practical commercial advice, deep knowledge of the construction industry, and our focus on achieving the best possible results.
